The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jake Majors, the No. 95 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 23.
The Jackson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Donovan Jackson in slot 56 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at pick 78 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Deontae Lawson was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach pick No. 198 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled DJ Campbell all the way to the 239th pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ollie Gordon II in No. 246 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
