Somebody in pick 202 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 113 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Every board in the league had Dellinger lower, and that gap is the story.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Emeka Egbuka at the 28th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Malaki Starks in No. 59 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They jumped the gun on Tez Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Domani Jackson in slot 138. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach the 146th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick 163 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A running back of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 27 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Garrett Dellinger at the 235th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Jack Kiser in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
