Washington Commanders

Stout should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in slot 250 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Upton Stout, the No. 189 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 21
In pick 29 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Jonah Savaiinaea · OT · rank 45
Jonah Savaiinaea at slot 61 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 86
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at the 79th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.9 · Pick 148 · Sebastian Castro · S · rank 93
Sebastian Castro at pick No. 148 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.29 · Pick 207 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 175
They robbed the room for Ollie Gordon II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
R7.20 · Pick 238 · Quincy Riley · CB · rank 182
You do not let a cornerback like Quincy Riley reach the 238th pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.32 · Pick 250 · Upton Stout · S · rank 189
Upton Stout at Round 7, Pick 32 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
