The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Smael Mondon Jr. fell into Round 7, Pick 19. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Pierce reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Trey Amos at No. 59 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hollin Pierce. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cam Skattebo in pick No. 146 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 235 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy little value on Shilo Sanders in Round 7, Pick 30, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
