For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Texans walked out of the weekend still thin at running back, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
They will need Monheim to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamren Kinchens in pick No. 27 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 21; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen McMillan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cedric Gray at pick 121 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Mike Sainristil at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had cheaper options than Jonah Monheim at slot 158, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Erick All in No. 239, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the 242nd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
