The rest of the league had time to spare on Gabe Hall; the Texans did not wait, grabbing him 23 spots ahead at slot 158. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Colson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at the 95th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at pick No. 121 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Nehemiah Pritchett in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gabe Hall well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at pick 240, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jack Howell at the 242nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster logic is harder to follow.
