The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named running back, a need the Texans walked right past. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
However the rest shakes out, King at that price is a win they earned. The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in pick 58, where Kalen King graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in slot 90. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sataoa Laumea. It fills a real need, too.
They liked James Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 126. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They did well to land Keith Randolph Jr. in Round 5, Pick 27, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Omar Speights was the payoff at the 239th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Brant Kuithe at the 247th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
