Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 235th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They are betting Hancock proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Mason Graham · DT · rank 6
In pick No. 19 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 37
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Booker at pick 53 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Luke Kandra · OG · rank 109
They reached a country mile for Luke Kandra at No. 84, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.19 · Pick 120 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 96
Elic Ayomanor at the 120th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.27 · Pick 164 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 193
A big swing on Jordan Hancock at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 100
Somehow Nicholas Singleton was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 19, and they pounced on premier running back value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
