The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Smael Mondon Jr. fell into Round 5, Pick 27.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in No. 53, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A straight-up fair deal on Donovan Jackson at pick 84, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Elic Ayomanor in slot 120 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 164 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Jonah Monheim here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
