Somebody in slot 248 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Miyan Williams, the No. 204 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If Knox pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Terrion Arnold went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They let Kris Jenkins come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 27. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malachi Corley in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Eboigbe at the 123rd pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Trey Knox, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Matthew Jones at No. 239 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Miyan Williams at the 248th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
