The Texans put a flag in the ground for Jaylan Ford, 37 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting McMillan where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Cooper Beebe in slot 53 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Davis in the 95th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Jalen McMillan in pick 121, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nehemiah Pritchett in the 124th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Zion Nelson in the 240th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
