Houston Texans

Mondon Jr. should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Smael Mondon Jr. fell into the 164th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 27
In the 25th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 37
They robbed the room for Tyler Booker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Jake Majors · C · rank 93
Jake Majors at Round 3, Pick 25 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.25 · Pick 126 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 92
The board fumbled Kevin Winston Jr. all the way to pick 126, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.27 · Pick 164 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 102
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 194
Circle this one: Jordan Hancock at the 241st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
