The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 238 on Zion Nelson a full 33 spots early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in the 49th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Hall Jr. at No. 90, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Max Melton at par in slot 117, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Cade Stover in Round 4, Pick 28 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Jaylan Ford enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than Julian Pearl at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Nelson well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
