The war room fell hard for DeMonte Capehart, and it showed at the Round 6 slot: 179 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
Landing Hardy that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Their trades came out a wash either way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 57th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in No. 126. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Myles Cole well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 213 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Daequan Hardy at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Dominique Hampton at Round 7, Pick 22, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
