You build a draft on nights like this. Kaleb Johnson had no business being available in pick 170, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Collins left real value on the table behind him.
So much rides on Mason Graham that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Alfred Collins in Round 3, Pick 11 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Rylie Mills at the 149th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Dylan Sampson in slot 169 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kaleb Johnson in the 170th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Gunnar Helm at pick 186 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in the 209th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
