The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kaleb Johnson, the No. 51 name on the board, in No. 149. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
The Wohler pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Mason Graham went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Derrick Harmon went about where he belonged in the 42nd overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jake Majors slipping to No. 75 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Kaleb Johnson at the 149th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dylan Sampson in pick No. 150 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach pick 151 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Gunnar Helm, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Danny Stutsman was still sitting there in slot 170, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hunter Wohler. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
