The Cowboys spent real capital to be 77 picks early on Alfred Collins, and the board is going to hold them to it. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Allar. With wide receiver, linebacker and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.1 · Pick 33 · Landon Jackson · DL-EDGE · rank 37
Landon Jackson at No. 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 38
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Abdul Carter in pick No. 44 leaves wide receiver, linebacker and other spots for later.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Josaiah Stewart · DE-EDGE · rank 49
A curious use of pick 54. Wide receiver, linebacker and other spots needed the pick; an edge rusher in Josaiah Stewart did not.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Kaleb Johnson · RB · rank 50
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kaleb Johnson in the 57th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.17 · Pick 118 · Logan Brown · OT · rank 184
Logan Brown at slot 118 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.13 · Pick 151 · Alfred Collins · DL · rank 228
A wild overpay on Alfred Collins in the 151st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
R5.17 · Pick 155 · Jonah Coleman · RB · rank 171
A conviction pick on Jonah Coleman at Round 5, Pick 17 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.31 · Pick 169 · Jaxson Dart · QB · rank 127
They will replay Jaxson Dart at slot 169 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Elijah Roberts · DE-EDGE · rank 209
Elijah Roberts in the 170th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Hunter Wohler · S · rank 191
They reached a country mile for Hunter Wohler at pick 171, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.34 · Pick 172 · Davison Igbinosun · CB · rank 193
Davison Igbinosun at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 107
A quarterback of that caliber at No. 180 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Jamaree Caldwell · DL · rank 257
They talked themselves into Jamaree Caldwell at pick No. 188, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
