The Joe Milton III pick is the one that will follow the Giants into the fall. They took him 59 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. That James pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 9 they get a true top target, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Cooper Beebe at No. 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
DJ James slid further than he should have, and slot 70 is lovely value for the cornerback. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Maason Smith at par in the 107th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Isaac Guerendo in the 122nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Joe Milton III at pick 141 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Cedric Johnson in the 183rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
