Call it larceny. Andru Phillips sat on the board until pick 230, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice.
J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need McCarthy to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a long-term answer under center, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 23 they get a disruptive interior force, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Cam Hart, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 8. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Beaux Limmer in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in pick No. 157: Luke McCaffrey for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalyx Hunt slipping to the 167th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Kitan Oladapo at slot 177 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Andru Phillips at No. 230 is a fall that decides a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Somehow Kendall Milton was still sitting there in pick 232, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
