Minnesota Vikings

A passer of the future in Nix, and a B, for the Vikings.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop.

The McMillan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The Melton pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Bailey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 23
In pick No. 26 they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 56
Chris Braswell at No. 47 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 67
Ruke Orhorhoro in pick 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 77
They took Cooper Beebe at par in Round 3, Pick 14, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 81
Value with a capital V on Mike Sainristil in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 80
They barely believed it either: Jalen McMillan still on the board at the 108th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 92
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jamari Thrash in the 112th pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end to take Max Melton, a cornerback that was not the priority.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Daijun Edwards · RB · rank 132
A premium they did not need to pay, Daijun Edwards a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 129
No drama and no debate, Cole Bishop went about where he belonged in the 124th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 144
A reach for Beaux Limmer in pick 129; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 155
A conviction pick on Braelon Allen at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 149
Javion Cohen in pick No. 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 153
A clean, defensible pick in slot 160 with a little surplus value in Ty'Ron Hopper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 180
A big swing on Javon Baker at Round 5, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 181
Jordan Jefferson in No. 162 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Emani Bailey · RB · rank 188
Value said wait; Emani Bailey in pick 168 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 187
Josh Proctor at the 179th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
Christian Jones in Round 6, Pick 29 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 214
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Myles Jones for less than the market said. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
