This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Fabien Lovett, the No. 183 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 12. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Reaching for Watson left real value on the table behind him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 23 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at pick 108 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ainias Smith at pick No. 129 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Luke McCaffrey in the 167th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nathaniel Watson at slot 177 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Trey Taylor in the 230th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Fabien Lovett in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
