The trade table was where it all came apart. The Vikings shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
The Hartman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The Vikings paired the rookies with proven help, Erik McCoy leading the way.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 28 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in the 45th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Braelon Allen at pick 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Beau Brade at Round 4, Pick 29 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Elijah Jones at No. 138 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in slot 144; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Tip Reiman at pick 167 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 177 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Grayson Murphy at the 183rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in the 230th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Myles Harden in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
