Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings robbed the room for Vidal. Final grade: A-.

The real work happened on the phones. The Vikings fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

On value alone, Vidal makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Vikings clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 59
No drama and no debate, Josh Newton went about where he belonged in the 60th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 92
Fair-plus on Jamari Thrash, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 84
Nice patience on Braden Fiske, who had no business lasting to slot 98. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 136
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Travis at No. 131, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 155
Braelon Allen in No. 148 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Sincere Haynesworth · C · rank 157
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 160 with a little surplus value in Sincere Haynesworth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 167
They took Layden Robinson at par in slot 168, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 163
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where LaDarius Henderson graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 191
They will replay Kimani Vidal at the 209th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 221
They let Sheridan Jones come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 10. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
