Start where it matters. The Vikings took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Lovett pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in the 42nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Darius Robinson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Cooper Beebe was the payoff at pick No. 84. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than Fabien Lovett at the 128th pick, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Kamal Hadden in slot 174 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They did well to land Dillon Johnson in pick 176, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cornelius Johnson in No. 187 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Owens went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
