The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Polk pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers in pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get the face of the franchise. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Ja'Lynn Polk all the way to the 108th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tommy Eichenberg slipping to No. 157 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steal is underselling it; Mason McCormick at the 167th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
AJ Barner in pick No. 177 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Curtis Jacobs was still sitting there in slot 230, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 232nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
