Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Devonshire steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Keon Coleman in No. 48 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Roman Wilson in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Edgerrin Cooper in Round 3, Pick 16, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 108 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Javon Foster at pick No. 129. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Isaiah Adams higher than the 148th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Jalyx Hunt, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tykee Smith at No. 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in the 177th overall pick with a little surplus value in Javion Cohen. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Daijun Edwards at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Trente Jones at Round 7, Pick 3 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Jaylan Ford here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Taking M.J. Devonshire in pick No. 232 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
