The Bears spent real capital to be 50 picks early on Anthony Lucas, and the board is going to hold them to it. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thomas.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Malachi Lawrence at the 57th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Anthony Lucas at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaishawn Barham this early at No. 89. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Julian Neal at pick No. 129. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in pick 239, where Zavion Thomas graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Trey Zuhn III at par in the 241st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
