Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ja'Kobi Lane got past him. The Bills do not have to explain a thing at the 126th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all.
They robbed the room for Jacob Rodriguez here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ja'Kobi Lane at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Albert Regis in pick 165 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Kage Casey higher than slot 168, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dalton Johnson at the 182nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jeremiah Wright in pick No. 220 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
