Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chargers were there to profit. A.J. Haulcy, the No. 50 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 86th pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Every board in the league had Bisontis lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Chase Bisontis in the 55th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: A.J. Haulcy still on the board at No. 86. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking Emmett Johnson in the 123rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 23, where Jeff Caldwell graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
