The Quintayvious Hutchins pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 51 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Miller falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 29 they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Joshua Josephs at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 74 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Nicholas Singleton at par in Round 4, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quintayvious Hutchins at pick No. 148 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Nate Boerkircher slid further than he should have, and slot 169 is lovely value for the tight end. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Eric Rivers at pick No. 176. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let VJ Payne come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
