There is a lot to like until you notice safety is still a hole. The Giants never got to the one that mattered most.
That Hecht pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If Gusta pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chris Bell in Round 2, Pick 5 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Sam Hecht at the 105th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Eli Raridon is a better player than No. 145 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Seth McGowan at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Red Murdock at pick No. 192 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach on David Gusta in Round 6, Pick 12; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
