They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Cade Klubnik, 36 picks early at No. 103.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Allen. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Rueben Bain Jr. at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
In No. 16 they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 33, where Colton Hood graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
CJ Allen slid further than he should have, and pick 44 is lovely value for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cade Klubnik. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Chris McClellan in the 140th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Dae'Quan Wright went about where he belonged in the 179th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy little value on Noah Whittington in pick No. 228, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jalen Huskey at par in No. 242, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
