You build a draft on nights like this. John Michael Gyllenborg had no business being available in pick No. 255, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Bell proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; D'Angelo Ponds went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Markel Bell in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Gracen Halton in the 120th pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tim Keenan III slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 20 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Josh Cameron is a better player than pick 201 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Robert Henry Jr. at par in No. 236, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
John Michael Gyllenborg in the 255th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
