Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent slot 95 on Caden Curry, a name the board had a full 35 spots lower. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Stribling value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 31 is lovely value for the safety. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Caden Curry in No. 95 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
De'Zhaun Stribling in the 125th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Dametrious Crownover in pick 131; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
They let Tanner Koziol come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Anez Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A premium they did not need to pay, Bobby Jamison-Travis a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked Jadon Canady enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 202. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Le'Veon Moss at No. 212 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Connor Tollison at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
