The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thompson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Pavia pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st overall pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Gennings Dunker at the 36th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Deontae Lawson in pick 67 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Malik Muhammad in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 117 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bishop Fitzgerald in pick No. 134. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at No. 175 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zane Durant at Round 6, Pick 4 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Dallen Bentley in Round 6, Pick 27, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Diego Pavia this early at pick No. 219. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
