The war room fell hard for Carson Beck, and it showed at slot 53: 67 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The Stukes value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Steelers indulged a want in Jones while a need in edge rusher stayed open. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Caleb Lomu at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Carson Beck this early at pick 53. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Malachi Fields, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Taaffe at Round 3, Pick 21 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Logan Jones at offensive lineman with edge rusher open.
The board fumbled Treydan Stukes all the way to pick No. 121, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Joe Royer come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 35. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Zxavian Harris in the Round 5 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

A reach on Luke Altmyer in the 230th pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah Jatta in the 237th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
