It is the swing that defines the weekend: Julius Welschof in the 227th pick, a good 140 spots before the room expected him.
The whole projection now runs through Michael Penix Jr.; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

In pick 11 they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 42 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had Blake Fisher higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyrice Knight at slot 130 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: Dillon Johnson at No. 145 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Jaylen Harrell in the 157th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Gabe Hall at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Zion Logue at pick 179, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
