Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Vikings never addressed tight end, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
On value alone, Abrams-Draine makes the weekend a net positive. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in pick 45, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the 56th pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick No. 130 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Malik Mustapha at the 145th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Javion Cohen in Round 5, Pick 21, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Grayson Murphy went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 173 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at slot 179 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had Jha'Quan Jackson higher than the Round 7 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
