Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tarheeb Still got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at pick 227.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They will need Gore Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
In No. 29 they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 43
They paid up for J.J. McCarthy at slot 35 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 80
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mike Sainristil in the Round 3 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 78
They let Christian Mahogany come to them and pounced at the 92nd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
By-the-book stuff, Jaden Hicks at pick No. 109 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 128
No drama and no debate, Tommy Eichenberg went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 30. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.9 · Pick 145 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 124
The board fumbled Jarrian Jones all the way to the 145th pick, and they scooped it up. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 142
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Mustapha at pick 157 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 177
Frank Gore Jr. at the 163rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 145
Ben Sinnott at pick 166 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 169
Nice patience on LaDarius Henderson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 179. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Tarheeb Still · CB · rank 195
Tarheeb Still in Round 7, Pick 7 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
