They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Rosemy-Jacksaint pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a sticky cover corner, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
They jumped the gun on J.J. McCarthy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Audric Estime slid further than he should have, and pick No. 109 is lovely value for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in No. 130: Darius Robinson for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tommy Eichenberg is a better player than Round 5, Pick 9 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Renardo Green in the 157th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Jaylin Simpson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in slot 179, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Erick All at pick 227 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
