The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Vikings walked right past. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Gould falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get an island corner at fair value.
A reasonable price with a little left over, J.J. McCarthy in the 35th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Will Shipley in No. 109, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on McKinnley Jackson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 5, Pick 20 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Fair-plus on Trevor Keegan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Anthony Gould in pick No. 179, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
