The real work happened on the phones. The Vikings fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Byron Murphy II and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a load in the middle. A real need, handled.
J.J. McCarthy in slot 43 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at Round 4, Pick 9 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tykee Smith is a better player than the 110th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Tommy Eichenberg in the 134th pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Will Shipley at pick 145 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 157, where Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 166. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Jalen Green in slot 227 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
