The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Briggs pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Bishop to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Colby Parkinson gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Bottom line, with J.J. McCarthy leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 19 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 23rd pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Cole Bishop at pick No. 129 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dylan Laube at pick 157 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Walter Rouse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Khristian Boyd at No. 177 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Keaton Bills in Round 7, Pick 10 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
