The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCormick. The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Bottom line, with J.J. McCarthy leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
In pick 32 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
McKinnley Jackson in No. 109 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Nelson Ceaser in the 130th pick; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Beau Brade in pick No. 156 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Travis at Round 5, Pick 37 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mason McCormick in the 179th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Dwight McGlothern, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
