B

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings let Devonshire fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Future A+

The rest of the league will want that one back. M.J. Devonshire tumbling to the Vikings in pick No. 230 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Travis left real value on the table behind him.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 17
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
In No. 29 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. More want than need.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 105
Zak Zinter at slot 108 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
Fair-plus on Johnny Wilson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 172
Jordan Travis in pick No. 157 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 158
A slide stopped in the 167th overall pick, with Sione Vaki worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 168
The board had Dillon Johnson higher than pick 177, and the running back fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · M.J. Devonshire · CB · rank 190
M.J. Devonshire at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 223
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Knox in slot 232. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
