After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On value alone, Gray makes the weekend a net positive.
Spending an early pick on cornerback with safety, offensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a sticky cover corner, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
In pick 23 they get a long-term answer under center at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kalen King adds a cornerback and leaves safety, offensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Cedric Gray slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Justin Eboigbe at slot 135 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
