You could see the war room lean forward. Kamal Hadden at Round 5, Pick 24 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Guyton at pick 42, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Max Melton went about where he belonged in pick No. 108. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Darius Robinson in the 129th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Javion Cohen in slot 148 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 24 is the definition of value, full stop. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cody Schrader in the 168th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Curtis Jacobs in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Omar Speights in the 230th overall pick, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
