The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Jacob Cowing slide 30 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Jared Verse in the 17th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 10 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Kalen King in pick 48, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Blake Corum at pick No. 77 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at the 96th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Jacob Cowing at slot 129 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Cam Hart was the payoff at No. 148. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Circle this one: Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on LaDarius Henderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Josh Proctor a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
