They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Boyd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Drake Maye in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in pick No. 34. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in pick 89, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 21. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Khristian Boyd at the 167th pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tahj Washington in No. 230 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
