The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had McCarthy lower, and that gap is the story.
The Rice pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. More want than need.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Brenden Rice for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trevor Keegan in pick 129 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hunter Nourzad at No. 157 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Braiden McGregor at par in pick No. 167, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fabien Lovett. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 10, with Jordan Magee worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Knox at the 232nd pick. It fills a real need, too.
